Nadal Makes Olympic Entry List

Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal was included on the entry list for the Olympic Games tennis tournament on Friday after appealing to the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The 14-time Grand Slam champion had not met the qualifying criteria, which involves a set number of Davis Cup appearances in an Olympic cycle, for next month’s Games in Rio.

World number four Nadal hasn’t played since a wrist injury forced him to withdraw from the French Open and also ruled him out of Wimbledon.

Nadal was the gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics but missed the 2012 London Games because of a knee injury.

He is due to carry Spain’s flag at the opening ceremony in Rio on August 5.

Reigning champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams will defend their Olympic titles on the Rio hard courts, the ITF had already confirmed.

Top stars including world number one Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are also playing in Brazil.

However, Maria Sharapova misses Rio due to her doping suspension as does fellow former world number one Victoria Azarenka who revealed Friday that she is pregnant.

Why I Am In Support Of Biafra – Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has, again, explained his support for Biafran agitators.

Soyinka said the Igbo people have been so wronged that they have no choice than to consider opting out of Nigeria.

Prof. Soyinka spoke on Al Jazeera, yesterday where he shed light on his support for Biafra agitators.

I am very much pro- Biafra because I recognise that the Igbo have been wronged desperately.

“They have been brutalised in a way that justifies their feeling that they were not part of the nation.

“Let me also say this, Biafrans are not entirely innocent in this affair. They were not, but the unleashing of such venom, such devastation on them as a people, was sufficient to justify their decision not to be part of the nation.

“I was pro-Biafran in the sense that I felt that they needed justice.
Soyinka denied he was a troublemaker, especially in the Biafran crisis, but added, “I grew up in certain circumstances being very conscious politically, in this very Abeokuta; my mother was involved in the politics, my aunt, Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome Kuti was a leader…

“I grew up among political arguments on issues that concern humanity and I find that basically gravitated towards recognising the basic worth of human beings.

“Something I disagree when they call me a patriot because I don’t agitate on some certain entity called a nation; I agitate on humanity.

He criticised the removal of History and teaching of the Biafran crisis in schools.

Officials do not want to confront their own history, especially the history in the making of which they feel uncomfortable but, if you do not confront your past, you are going to mess up your future.

On Boko Haram and the breakup of Nigeria, he said ironically, Boko Haram might be part of the reasons Nigeria may stay together.

Soyinka said a few years ago, he would have agreed that Nigeria would break, but, now that a section of the country is in trouble, there is some kind of pulling together. He added that the conscience of many Nigerian has been awakened such that they cannot abandon that section of the country.

He urged Nigerians to recognise the plurality of Nigeria, how it came together and begin to devise and adopt a method of governance which cannot only be of massive decentralisation. “That way, we can stay together. If we continue to have a centralist government, then, Nigeria is on the brink.

Louis Tomlinson’s Ex Briana Jungwirth Slams Danielle Campbell: ”You Will Never Be My Baby Son’s Mother”

The One Direction singer’s ex-girlfriend and baby mama, Briana Jungwirth, is none too happy about their son, Freddie, spending time with his new girlfriend Danielle Campbell. Let us explain…

Tomlinson and Campbell were photographed in Malibu on Wednesday while the singer spent time with his 6-month-old baby. Obviously, Jungwirth caught wind of these photos and decided to take to Twitter to make her feelings clear.

“You can pretend all you want but you will NEVER be my baby son’s mother,” she wrote to her 35K followers, obviously directing it to Campbell.

As we reported before, the constant paparazzi surrounding Tomlinson and his son has been so much of an issue he was forced to ask for privacy in a statement earlier this month.

The persistent and increasing levels of paparazzi and media intrusions into Freddie’s life of late are not only posing potential security issues but are also crucially invading the privacy to which Freddie is undoubtedly entitled as a child,“the statement said. “The levels of paparazzi attention on Freddie are intolerable and completely unjustifiable.

The statement continued, “Louis appreciates, respects and values his relationship with the media and we hope he and his son are afforded the same respect on this matter.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Jungwirth was preventing Tomlinson from seeing his son due to her jealousy over his new girlfriend. Thus, the singer has filed for joint physical and legal custody of Freddie.

Jungwirth, a Los Angeles stylist who dated the singer briefly last year, denied any allegations on Twitter, slamming the tabloids and writing: “To all those who feel the need to make disparaging, hateful and inappropriate comments concerning me and my son Freddie – I am sincerely sorry that you all have chosen to focus your time and attention on my life and the life of my son. Surely you must have better things to do than pry into the personal life of a single mom and newborn child.”

She continued, “I am confident that in the days and weeks to come, you all will find that your negativity and venomous attacks were little more than time wasted. In the meantime – I am hopeful that you will all respect my son’s privacy and find it in your hearts to discontinue the overwhelmingly inappropriate comments about me, my family, and most importantly my son Freddie. Thank you.
